Gelli Printing & Mixed Media Techniques Creative Retreat in France

Set on a rustic working farm, Domaine les Gonies, in the French countryside, this relaxed one-week creative retreat offers 5 days tuition with textile and mixed media artist, Gillian Cooper.  Using our beautiful surroundings for inspiration, you will discover how to develop this into mixed media artwork on paper and fabric.  You will learn techniques such as gelli plate printing, cyanotyping, eco-printing, collage and simple hand stitching.  And, most importantly, how to pull all of this together into coherent work. The emphasis is on slow making, curiosity, and layered processes, allowing ideas and work to unfold naturally in a supportive, informal setting.  You will return home brimming with ideas and either a finished piece or several samples ready to develop further, with the confidence to do so.

Who is this for?

Open to ages 16+ and adults, the retreat is suitable for beginners as well as those with creative experience. Most materials will be supplied as we are mindful you will be travelling.  You will receive a short requirements list, with optional extras if you have space.  All meals are included, encouraging a gentle rhythm to the week and time to enjoy both making and farm life.  The nearest airport is Bergerac.

Tutor

Gillian Cooper is an experienced artist and tutor, with many years of experience in helping the creatively fearful find joy in the creative process.  She is particularly focussed on enabling students to develop their own personal ideas in fabric and paper rather than copying a pattern.  Gillian’s own practice is textile based, with forays into artists books and mixed media.  She teaches City & Guilds Patchwork and Quilting and Creative Sketchbook courses in her studio and online and has been regular tutor at the Festival of Quilts and The Scottish Quilting Show for many years.
