Gillian is a textile artist with a flourishing teaching practice. She has years of experience teaching classes and is particularly passionate about helping adults find their way in art, whether on paper or in fabric. Students learn to develop their own style, with encouraging, supportive coaching from Gillian.
She teaches both in-person and online, concentrating primarily on the City & Guilds courses in patchwork & quilting and creative sketchbooks.
Gillian originally trained as an accountant, before ‘seeing the light’ and going to Goldsmiths in her early 30s to study textiles. On graduation, she returned to Scotland, setting up her own studio in Balfron, west Stirlingshire, where she makes and teaches. She has also written and made projects for textile publications, including Today’s Quilter and The Quilter.
Gillian has exhibited widely, both in the UK and overseas. Recent exhibitions include ‘Presence: A Sense of Time and Place’ at the Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh in conjunction with Samantha Townsend, who also teaches on Gillian’s online C&G courses.
